The Mokelumne Hill Branch Library was opened June?? after Teresa Moore, a long time resident of Mokelumne Hill bequeathed 2000 shares of Exxon stock to the community for a library. This enabled the citizens to buy and renovate a building in the center of town, next to the town park and deed it to the county to become the eighth library in Calaveras County, a central library in San Andreas and seven branch libraries. It operates under the liadership of County Library Director Maurie Hoekstra and Branch Attendant Brenda Nasser.
It is more than a place to read and check out books or use a computer. It is a gathering place for the community. It provides meeting space for organization to meet. Teachers of home schooled children meet their students there and Tutors of adults in the library Literacy Program meet there.
A children's story hour with songs, dance and crafts is held after school on the first and third Fridays of the month. The library is also the home of the Mokelumne Hill History Society which keeps the archives for the town and provides exhibits for the library.
The Friends of the Library helped create the library. They raised money for the furnishings,copy maker, and toys for the youngest children. The friends raise money with an ongoing used book sale and donations. The Mokelumne Hill Friends of the Library is a chapter of the Friends of the Calaveras County Library and is also under the umbrells os the Mokelumne Hill Community Trust.

The Friends would like to increase their membership. Please Join. The library has several volunteers that help the library attendant or have the skills to keep the library open beyond the hours that the paid attendant is there.

Tuesday 10am to 5pm
Wednesday 10am to 5pm
Thursday 1pm to 5pm
Friday 10am to 2pm
We need more volunteers to be open more hours. Training is available. If you or anyone you know is interested please let the library know.
Children's Hour at the Library
Please come join us at the Mokelumne Hill Library on the first and third Friday of each month for our local Children's Hour. We offer a variety of activities for all ages, including reading/stories/literacy activities, songs and motor skills activities, arts and crafts, snacks, and simply a time for fun and sharing. All ages are welcome.

Come join our lively group for our Children's Hour at the Moke Hill Library on the first and third Friday of each month from 12:30-1:30. We offer a variety of activities in music, stories and literacy activities, arts and crafts projects, snack, etc. We welcome all ages to come join us for a time of fun and sharing.
