Rail Road Flat Elementary School is one step closer to getting a funding
boost from the state.

Calaveras Unified School District Superintendent Jim Frost and District
2 Supervisor Steve Wilensky made a trip to Sacramento Wednesday and
testified before the Senate Education Committee to have the school
designated as a necessary small school. The committee unanimously
approved Senate Bill 1139 (an 8-0 vote minus one absent committee
member), which would get the school its designation.

With a small school designation, Rail Road Flat Elementary would qualify
for about $80,000 per year in additional state funding, according to Frost.
