The Amador Farmers’ Market is getting ready to start its 15th season, with the return of many favorite vendors, and a few exciting changes. The season will open early this year with a brand new market in Jackson, on Sundays from 10 am to 1 pm starting May 18. The Jackson Market will be located at the Busi Municipal Parking Lot on Highway 49. Patrons will be able to eat breakfast at Mel and Faye’s Diner, then shop leisurely while enjoying the sounds of live music, and the sights and smells (and tastes!) of fresh produce and baked goods. Local singer-songwriter Ben Henry will provide the music on opening day.
The second week of June will bring the opening of two more markets. On Monday, June 9, the Ione Market will begin its season in a new location, on Ione Street at Main Street, next to Castle Cuts Hair Salon. Classic crooner Harry Jordash will entertain the crowds on opening day. The hours of the Ione Market are 3 pm to 6:30 pm. The Sutter Creek Market will open on Saturday, June 14, with its regular hours of 8 am to 11 am. Patrons can linger over coffee and pastries from the Ice Cream Emporium or Andrae’s Bakery at outdoor seating, and on opening day delight in the singing of Herb Boxhorn. The Sutter Creek Market is in the Eureka Street parking lot.
Later in the month, on Wednesday, June 25, the Pine Grove Market opens in the Pine Grove Community Park from 3 pm to 6 pm. The Market welcomes the return of musician John Covert and his troupe of talented students performing favorite songs. Patrons can purchase the makings of a great picnic to enjoy in the park adjacent to the Market.
The Plymouth Community Market will return this year to the McGee Park in Plymouth, with the help of the Plymouth-Foothills Rotary Club. The Market will continue to be a fundraiser for the Plymouth Elementary School, this year supporting the 2009 sixth grade mural. The park on Main Street is a lovely, shady spot for people to taste local wines and buy local produce and crafts, and support a good cause. The Plymouth Market runs from August 7 to September 18, Thursdays from 4 pm to 7 pm, and is a wonderful community event.
The Amador Farmers’ Market is the best place to buy the freshest, healthiest, and most delicious produce, and provides a great opportunity for the public to participate in their local economy and reduce this community’s dependence on oil. The Market is also a wonderful social gathering place, a place to reconnect with your neighbors. For more information on the Market, please call 209-419-2503, or go to amadorfarmersmarket.com.
