Library users are now familiar with the new circulation system. A big change is library cards are required to check out material. Patrons cannot just give their name to the attendant. Library customers can receive advance notification via e-mail that their library books, magazines, videos etc. are coming due in two days. Everyone should be sure their correct e-mail address is in the new computerized system. On Jan. 25th video fines changed to 20 cents instead of a $1.00 a day. Also videos can be checked out for three weeks instead of one week.
Another change is fines must be under $5.00 in order to check out new items. .
Library customers accessing the online catalog from home at calaveraslibrary.com can see lists of new books and DVD's added to the collection.
The books are no longer stamped with the date due stickers. Instead, a list of the books checked out and the date they are due is given to the customer. This means the messy, gummy stickers need to be cleaned off of the books. Anyone interested in helping with this project should call Sally Tuttle at 286-1295. Cleaning can be done in the Moke Hill branch or you may join the "Dirty Book Club" which meets once a month at the Central Library in San Andreas on the second Monday of each month from 10am to noon to clean books.
The Mokelumne Hill Friends of the Library bought a second copier. It is an HP that copies in both black and white and color. It is also a scanner and fax. It does a beautiful job with flyers and photos. Color copies are 50 cents and a faz sent or received is $1.00 plus the cost of the phone call if it is long distance. Photo paper is available for 10 cents a sheet.
Be sure to check out the used book sale on the porch. New books are added regularily. Paperbacks are 25cents and hard backs are $1.00. The book sale enables the library to have a children's program after school on the first and third Fridays and to pay for cleaning twice a month. If you are buying books when the library is closed put the money in the book drop.
