Please sign on! Mok.River Wild and Scenic Act

The national Wild and Scenic Rivers Act turned 40 on Thursday. In those 40 years, only 15 California rivers have secured National Wild and Scenic River designation. They include some of our great rivers -- the Tuolumne, American, Merced.

It's time to add our own Mokelumne River to that list!

We're working hard to protect the Mokelumne from more dams. In the long run, the only way to protect the river is through national Wild and Scenic designation, which requires an act of Congress. For that, we need to demonstrate our strong community support. We need you on our supporter list.

In the last few weeks, more than 50 local businesses have signed on to support the Mokelumne Wild and Scenic River designation. They understand that the Mokelumne provides

-- Incredible scenic beauty
- Recreation for people of all ages and abilities
-- Unique cultural and historical resources
-- High water quality
-- Places where children can learn about nature

If you're not yet on our Mokelumne supporter list, please sign on today . It takes less than a minute. (If the link doesn't work, copy and paste this URL into your browser: http://www.foothillconservancy.org/pages/mokelumne_support_form.cgi )

Even if you never visit the river, please remember that it embodies everything the Foothill Conservancy stands for: quality of life, a healthy natural environment, and a sustainable local economy.

If you've already signed on -- thank you. Your support is building momentum that will protect our river for generations to come.
