WHOA THERE... In September a friend had called to say that the Valley Sierra Miniature Horse Club was having a Prancing Pony Play-Day at the horse arena and they were looking for kids who might be interested in participating. Are you kidding me? I must admit my curiosity and my imagination was getting the best of me. I had no idea what that meant or entailed but it had to do with ponies and I just happen to know a few little girls!
I loaded up three little girls and we headed to the arena. “My kids” were absolutely big chickens when it came to just approaching these animals. Everyone there was so nice and eager to talk about their animals and let the girls handle them. Did you know that there is a difference between a miniature pony and a miniature horse? After spending the whole day there we will forever know the difference!
Of course we didn’t have any ponies but we were able to rustle up enough mini’s for each of my kids. We “borrowed” some ponies and signed up for some games. The events that my kids participated in were the Egg-n-spoon, where you led your horse holding a spoon and egg in it, the apple-bite, the pony who ate it the fastest off of a string…won, and musical sacks…yes, a lot like musical chairs but with ponies. My kids, who were so terrified...I mean terrified...before we started, were leading these ponies around by themselves by the end of the day. They all won something and you could tell how proud they were. The backseat of the car on the ride home was all pony buzz!
Valley Sierra Miniature Horse Club is a non-profit organization. They are always looking for new members whether you have an animal or not! Your animal also does not have to be registered to join. They go by size here and that’s pretty much their only requirement! Whether you have a donkey, mule, mini, dwarf, pony…you’re in! They also do carts. Hooking up a mini team to a cart or single mini. They are planning a cart ride on Pool Station Road and will be having a registered show in the Spring. We will keep you posted of their upcoming events or you can call Virginia Flint at 754-3263 for more information.
I would like to say thank you Valley Sierra Mini Horse Club for being so kind and patient with my kids and helping them to gain so much confidence in themselves in one afternoon! Of course, they all want their own mini horse now...and no it can’t sleep in your room.
