Here’s where it gets fun. Creating content for mokehill.com is really easy, and you don’t have to know HTML or web development to do it! First we’ll list the types of content you can create, then we’ll go over each one in more depth.
Remember that when you want to post new content, you need to click the Create Content link under your Navigation menu, then choose the type of content you want to post via the links at right OR on the main page that appears.
Here's a common mistake: If you want to create something - let's say a classified ad - but instead of going to "Create content" you instead click the Classified link at the top of the page, it won’t take you to the create content page, but to the class ad section. The easy solution is to then click "Create Content" and then "Classified ad."
Some basic content types:
Note: the attached PDF at the bottom of this page lists all content types. Feel free to download and print it, but remember that not all users have access to all content types (the PDF was printed while logged in as an Administrator)
Album: A photo album, a container to hold pictures. When you add a photo album there's a simple way to then add photos to it, but you have to create the album to hold them first. (More later.)
Biography. Every user can include a bio that is shown on their user profile. We encourage you to do this, to enable people to get to know each other better!
Blog entry. Blog is short for “web log” and it’s your own personal writing spot. Blog entries are a lot like diary entries (only they don’t have to be *quite* so personal!)
Book page. Books are collaborative nodes. Others can help, edit, write or revise. On this site, as of this writing, we have 3 books: this Site Help section, the History section, and the Directions section. More will probably be created as the mood strikes the members.
Classified ad. All site members can submit FREE classified ads to the directory!
Event. Another name for Calendar items. Events show up in the calendar, and can be set as public (everyone sees them) or specific to a group so that only the group sees them when clicking on the Calendar.
Event with Volunteer Timeslot. This is cool - you can create events with timeslots where volunteers can later log in and sign up to work those times. Similar to events (they post to the calendar), but super handy for groups, in my opinion, especially if you're fundraising.
FAQ. All authors can create Frequently Asked Questions ... as long as you provide the answer, too! These show up in our FAQ section and are designed to impart information about Mokelumne Hill in a quick FAQ format.
Image. You can upload images here. Not the best or easiest way to do this, however; I'd suggest using albums and image assist instead. (More on both later.)
Local business. This is where you add local business listings. It’s free so go ahead, add all your friend’s businesses!
Page. Hmmm. This would be a static page - we don't have many of those on this site. But if you're dying to...(better to submit most content as a Story or a Blog entry.)
Picture. Use to post pictures as nodes. Again, there's an easier way using Image Assist or Albums. More later.
Poll. Create a poll for people to vote on.
Story. A “page” of sorts. Great to use for entries that aren’t really personal blog items, or notices that you want to post to the home page!
Task. Post a task, assign it to yourself or others!
Thing to do. This will show up in the list of Things to do (link in top nav bar). NOTE: This is not the same as a calendar item, these are more general things without (necessarily) set dates.
Next section - how to post this stuff!! (see attached PDF for list of all content types)
