Guy Earlington Reynolds, Lawyer, 1931-2009

He graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He obtained his Law degree from St. Louis University. He married Jacqueline Joan Phillips September 4, 1954. He first worked for Shell Oil as a patent attorney and was transferred to California in 1961. He started as a private practice lawyer in 1963 in Placerville and eventually moved to Sutter Creek in 1965 with his family. He moved his practice to Jackson where he was working with his one true love, other than his wife and family, the law, until his last day.

Guy served in the Army during the Korean War in civilian intelligence based in Oklahoma. He was District Attorney for Amador County for 8 years in the 1970’s and served as City Attorney for the cities of Ione and Plymouth for many years.

Guy believed in service to his community and belonged to many service and fraternal organizations. He was on the Lions Club International Eye Foundation Board where he received the honor of Helen Keller Fellow. Additionally with Lions he served as his local club President, MD4 District Governor, was a Life Member of the Lions Youth Exchange, a Melvin Jones Fellow, a Fred W. Smith Fellow, and recipient of the Ernie Theobald Endowment for work at Camp Pacifica. As a Mason he held the offices of Junior Warden, Senior Warden, Secretary, and was Master of Henry Clay Lodge from 1971-1973. Guy was also a lifetime member of the Jackson Elks Lodge, Ben Ali Shriners, and American Legion.

Guy loved to cook and enjoyed cooking and barbecuing for his family and friends. He was very proud of his garden and had obtained the title of Master Gardener through the Amador County Master Gardeners Association. He was a member of the Early Risers Walking and Exercise Club of Sutter Creek. Even though he was a Midwesterner by birth, he was a Californian at heart and was very interested in anything to do with the history of the Old West, railroads, cowboys and gold mining. He was an active member of the Clampers group who dedicated many historic plaques throughout California and Nevada.

Guy was preceded in death by his parents and step mother Katherine Reynolds; son, Friends are invited to services which will be held Friday December 18, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Daneri’s Mortuary Chapel. A reception will follow at the American Legion Hall in Sutter Creek/Martell. Graveside services will be private. Guy spearheaded the beginning of Moke Hill Lions in the late 1970's. There would not be a Moke Hill Lions without Guy. He attended many meetings and helped on numerous occasions as a Past District Governor. He was a tremendous Lion volunteer and will be sorely missed by all.
